Experiment published in the Journal of Small Business Management

Together with colleagues from the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Prof. Dr. Dr. Sascha Kraus, Prof. Dr. Alfredo de Massis), the University of Venice (Dr. Michele Pinelli) and the University of Palermo (Prof. Dr. Pasquale Massimo Picone), Prof. Dr. Thomas Niemand from MDT has published an article in the high-ranking Journal of Small Business Management. The article deals with the decision-making process that family businesses go through when deciding whether or not to take advantage of entrepreneurial opportunities. In an elaborate experiment, the international research group was able to show that it is not so much the context of the decision (how important or risky is the opportunity?) that is decisive for managers in family businesses, but rather their own educational background and their own conviction that they can make their own decisions. In today's challenging times of social, ecological and digital change, this has important implications. Promoting education and entrepreneurial self-efficacy is much more conducive to entrepreneurial activity in family businesses than previously assumed. The article can be viewed here:
