Kick-off event of the science space "Behavioral Economics and Social Transformation"
From 3 to 5 September 2024, the chairs of Prof. Dr. Menges and Prof. Dr. Paetzel hosted the "Behavioral Economics" workshop at Clausthal University of Technology for the third year in a row. In this context, the kick-off of the science space "Behavioral Economics and Social Transformation" took place on September 4, 2024.
The participating professors presented themselves, their teams and their research. The Science Space, which is supported by the zukunft.niedersachsen program of the Volkswagen Foundation and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture with a funding amount of 2,432,916 euros, aims to lay the foundations for a more in-depth scientific examination of social transformation processes.
The focus is on topics such as climate change, migration, demographic change, digitalization and artificial intelligence. These major societal challenges will be examined using an interdisciplinary approach to behavioral economics in order to develop long-term solutions for future transformations. In particular, the analyses will also take into account social groups that have so far been given too little attention in studies and surveys - such as the rural population and a balanced mix of all age cohorts. The Science Space plans to use the "Politics and Science" forum, among other things, to bring the findings into the public discourse.
The Science Space brings together the expertise of a total of seven universities from Lower Saxony and beyond. In addition to Clausthal University of Technology, the universities of Göttingen, Hanover, Lüneburg, Oldenburg, Osnabrück and Vechta as well as the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology are involved. Prof. Dr. Mario Mechtel from Leuphana University Lüneburg is the spokesperson for the Science Space. Dr. Janina Kraus will start as coordinator of the Science Space in Lüneburg on 15.10.24. The collaboration of 14 professorships and around 30 academic staff will enable an intensive exchange in research and teaching. Among other things, research collaborations, joint research seminars and joint doctoral projects are planned.
The scientific area builds on the joint doctoral program "Behavioral Economics and Social Transformation", which has been in existence since 2022. The doctoral college lays the methodological foundations for prospective academics who want to conduct research in the field of behavioral economics. The doctoral college met on September 3, 2024.
