The Institute of Economics becomes the Institute of Management, Economics and Law (IMEL)

On January 1, 2026, the Institute of Economics at Clausthal University of Technology will merge with the Institute of German and International Mining and Energy Law (IBER) to form the Institute of Management, Economics and Law (IMEL).

With the founding of IMEL, business administration, economics and law expertise will be bundled under a common institutional umbrella. The new institute is clearly anchored in TU Clausthal's guiding theme, the circular economy, and addresses key issues relating to the social, economic and legal transformation towards a sustainable supply of energy and raw materials.

IMEL combines expertise in the fields of management, economics and law and pursues a joint interdisciplinary approach in research, teaching and transfer. The close integration of economic and legal perspectives creates the basis for well-founded analyses and practice-relevant contributions to the further development of market-based, competition-oriented and sustainable regulatory frameworks.

The high quality of teaching, research and transfer will be maintained for students, researchers and cooperation partners. At the same time, the new institute structure opens up additional opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation within Clausthal University of Technology and with partners from science, business, politics and society at regional, national and international level.
